Short Journey into the History of Candles

Candles have an important place in human history, and their usage purposes and technologies have changed over time. Originally, candles were used for lighting purposes, a very important invention for early civilizations. Candles used in religious ceremonies and rituals have become symbols with mystical and religious meanings.

Michel-Eugène Chevreul's discovery of stearic acid contributed to improved quality in candle making and enabled candles to burn longer. The machine developed by Joseph Morgan for molding candles accelerated candle production and made production possible on an industrial scale.

With James Young's invention of paraffin wax, a cheaper and more durable type of candle emerged. However, over time, concerns that paraffin candles could be harmful to health increased and natural candle alternatives began to be preferred. Natural candles, such as beeswax and soy wax, have gained popularity as a healthy and environmentally friendly option.

Today, candles are used not only for lighting purposes, but also to create a decorative and emotional effect. They are widely preferred to change the atmosphere on special occasions, celebrations, ceremonies and even activities such as yoga or meditation. Candles remain a powerful symbol for meeting people's emotional and mental needs.
